SUSAN TINGLEY
As a lifelong resident of Terre Haute, I have always been interested in our local history. But it wasn’t until I started working at the Vigo County Historical Museum that I had the idea for a book that matched up buildings with their historical occupants. I vowed to write this book when I retired. When that day came in 2020, I asked my friend, Fran, if she would be interested in taking the photos. I’ve known Fran since I was a student of hers while working on a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Indiana State University. I have always admired her artistic architectural detail photos and knew she would do an amazing job. I was right!

FRAN LATTANZIO
When Susan first approached me with her idea for this project, it felt like a good fit. My photographic work has focused on architectural subject matter for some time, and since I live in Terre Haute’s historic district (Farrington’s Grove), I was well aware of the visual possibility of older homes. What I see in a potential subject may not be what another sees, I tend to focus in on details that yield interesting compositions, but still represent the residence. I received both my Masters of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from the University of Michigan. In 1975, I moved to Terre Haute to teach Photography in the Department of Art at Indiana State University. I retired from teaching in 2020.
